Globalization Writing Prompt

Why is it that rich get richer and poor stay poor?
- The first main reason why we all think of this catchphrase is because of the growing income inequality and the wealth disparities. For the rich people, they already have the budget so they don't have as much problems as the poor. ALso, Without income there can't be wealth so there is always a pattern in poverty. Second reason can be that the first thought you have before spending money is you double the initial expenses so that mentally, discourage you. Also, There are always limits in actions. Poor people would think that opportunities would come again so they don't take the courage to get new jobs and take the risk. Unlike the rich people, they just take the risk and even though they made a wrong choice, they still have opportunities and things that could be made up.

1. Why have some countries donated more in aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan than others?
- The reason why some countries donated more in aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan than others is because they have higher GDP than other countries. However, there are some exceptions like China because even though they have high GDP, they are donating much lesser than what they have. Also, this is a great chance to get a good image to other countries so that could be one reason.

2. How does the aid being sent to victims of Typhoon Haiyan represent the following:
Altruism
Geopolitics
Neo-colonialism

How does the devastation brought from Typhoon Haiyan make you feel?
- I felt really bad because in my place, I just felt the wind and rain however, people who live in vulnerable areas had a lot of damage. I never thought that this typhoon killed over 10,000 people.

How should people prepare for and respond to disasters like Typhoon Haiyan?

- I think people should prepare by paying more attention to the weather forecast in case of emergency. Also, I also think even though they are scared I hope they don't panic because worse case scenario can be created when one starts to panic, soon everyone would be panicking. People can also prepare by buying emergency food and especially water so that they could use them when needed.

Why do people live in vulnerable areas?

- Most of the people who live in vulnerable areas are in need meaning to say they don't have enough money to live in a safer place. This typhoon, Haiyan started to come near the Philippines since Thursday and the Philippines' government even prepared the citizens that this storm would be one of the strongest in history. The weather forecast predicted about the signal of the storm for each region.
